Short, regular sessions are usually kinder and more effective than waiting for tangles to become difficult.
Brush little and often
Choose a quiet time, work in the direction of the coat and stop before your cat becomes frustrated. Pay extra attention behind the ears, under the front legs and around the hindquarters.
Use grooming as a health check
Look for redness, flakes, fleas, small wounds or areas that feel unusually sensitive. Do not cut tight mats close to the skin with scissors.
Know when to book professional help
A professional groom is useful when matting is widespread, your cat is uncomfortable or coat care at home is becoming stressful for both of you.
